Congratulations Mr Brown CBE

You may have noticed this morning that the New Years Honours List has been released, and among the list of names 998 long, is our very own Mr Joe Brown, who has received a CBE.

Joe has an unimaginable list of great achievements, from the high Peaks of the Himalaya to right here, on Dinas Cromlech and other Welsh crags, and many such venues in between. Most recently, he has put up new routes in Northern Africa, in Morocco.

He gained fame among the non-climbing community in the 1960s, with live television broadcasts of some of his climbs, including most notably a first ascent on the Old Man of Hoy in 1967 with Sir Chris Bonington and Ian McNaught-Davis.

We are all very pleased for Joe here at the shop, and wish him our heartiest congratulations.

For further reading on Joe, click here for his autobiography, or here for Climb's October 2010 with a ten page article on the man himself, both of which are signed.
